more ideas

Another idea I had for Grammy was to solicit birthday cards from everyone who knows her -- we could maybe get 90?  We could put the cards in the back of the book we are making.  I know my friends even from college would probably want to take part in this.  If we think of all the people who know Grammy from staying at everyone's houses and taking friends to Dover and the mill over the years, we could get a lot of cards!  So, I thought each person could be in charge of collecting cards from their circle and then I would compile them all (you could mail them to me or I could put it together at the party).  What do people think?

Poll for date

To log your preferred date for the party - please comment to this post, rather then make a new post - just easier to keep track of the responses. The three-day weekend is January 17-18-19.

party date

Hi Guys,
I want to get a vote on the best date for the party. Cathy said the three day w/end is best for travelers. I'll send an email since not everyone is accessing the blog and take a count. Of course we won't get everybody, but we'll go with the majority. Grammy said the date didn't matter to her.
I like the book and video ideas. Sounds like Susie will coordinate the book, do you want a second person helping? THe video might be a bit harder, but I think it'd be worth it. I'll check with my kids to see if one or more can take it on.

When again is the date of the party? I want to make sure it gets on to my calender and Ando's in INK. I like the plastic sleeves, too. It give us the option of putting a little texture into it, if need be. Also, can I have a deadline by which we must mail it versus plan to bring it to the party. Knowing me I'll mail it too late and it will be post with the US Postal Service while we are whooping it up at the Crowleys. -ad

gus-- bummer for us; yeah for gwen's grandmother.

aly- I'll check out that sight and will communicate out to all about the book plan. Also, see if Susan C. will add a notice in with the invite.... Also, if all out would keep the word alive about the two projects.
Good plan, Cathy! I like it.
I hate to miss the momentous shindig, but it looks like we're going to CR later in the year to see Gwen's grandmother, which will take up our $ and vacation time...
Paper Source always has adorable presentation binders and book-binding kits. http://paper-source.com/ Another option is a custom binder. There are a lot of online companies, although probably very few that will produce just one custom binder... a local printer might be a good resource, if you go the custom route.

Card stock would be ideal paper to use - it is so sturdy. Should we keep all the paper white or are colors ok? The plastic sleeves as a great idea - so much easier than laminating each sheet!!!

I think it is great idea to invite both family and friends to participate! Who wants to be in charge of letting everyone know the details???

I think for the book, to simplify on Gus' suggestion everyone and anyone (family, friends, etc.)can do a 8.5x11 page and mail to a designated person (Susie T.) or bring to the party. We then put them in a binder... I will research and purchase a nice looking one. We should just do it. Gus any chance you guys would make it up for the shing-ding?

Grammy's book

The book idea sounds great! Let's do it. My vote is for 8.5 x 11, heavier paper if you can (but regular weight OK), just one page per person - that keeps it simple and uniform. (But I'm good with whatever format folks prefer.) I like one page per person in descending order of age - that would be cool. We may not get a page from every single person, but we could probably slap together pages for any non-responders at the end if we had to.
Gus

Since I could not read what I wrote:

Here are the posts from The.Heard.Herd blog regarding the b-day planning, cut and pasted so no one has to jump back and forth. Sorry if I missed any.

I am eager to get started on my page (actually I am supposed to be studying for one of my national exams, not messing around with blogs, scrap books of photo albums so really this is just a procrastination technique - I wouldn't want you thinking I'd turned over a new leaf...) Do we have parameters for the page - 8-11? thick or thin paper? limit to number of pages? do great grandkids get their own pages or do they stick with their parents? do hubby's get their own pages (Ando will want to know...)? -love amydaisy

Book Idea

I love the book idea Aly! Maybe people can just create their pages and we can put them in a photo album or some binder with those plastic sleeves. That way we won't have to pass a book around to everyone. And the latecomers can add their pages when they get to it (ahem, Amy!). The babies could do photos or handprints or babble to their parents who can dictate or translate (I'm not sure what in-utreo babies can do, but I'll leave that up to their parents -- ultrasound shots?). If people are on boat, I will organize this project. Snow predictions for Maine tomorrow (for those of you enjoying life in more southern climes) -- at least we have all our leaves raked, as of yesterday.

grammy's B'day

like Cathy, I'm still figring out the blog thing. posted this twice...once as a acomment

book and slide show could both happen. Mum loves the book cause she can access it anythime. but I think a slide show would be a great event we can all share.
I like repeating expanding on that original book with a page for each person ( can we have a page for the belly-baby?)

but maybe the slide show idea was more like a this-is your-life thing?

just thoughts

Grammy's bday

Someone mentioned the were creating a slide show for Grammy's bday, which is such a great idea! I had an idea for a present that might be a bit redundant now.

Remeber the book we made Grammy when we (all the cousins) were younger? Each of us had a page? She still has it (in Kezar Falls), looks at it regularly, and absolutely loves it (according to her). What if we did something like that again?

This time we could have page for every immediate-ish family member - from eldest child (Christine) to youngest great-grandchild (Noemi I think). It is a daunting - both from the logistics and the amount of people involved - project, but I think she would love it.

What do you think?

It is definitely the kind of project that will only work if everyone is one board and could simplified by having only families contribute pages, but how special is it if we each have our own? Any thoughts?

New blog for Grammy b-day discussions

Hey guys - per Cathy's request: this is the new blog for secretly discussing Grammy's b-day presents, party plans, and anything else you don't want blabbed to the whole family in three days or less.

Summary of ideas:
(1) Photo slide show
- "this is your life" theme
(2) Book of family pages
- SuzyT Offers to organize
- Use loose leaf format from those of us too consumed with our own lives to be timely
(3) Collect family video to watch at party

Rules: make new posts rather then comments. If you can't becasue you are not an "author" let me know and I'll make sure you are properly invited.

I thought the black color appropriate to the super secret nature of our intent...
